I'd had so many terrible experiences in a row, and I just finally went, 'Look, I'm making my own films now. There's no reason to put myself in this position over and over again.' And so to be able to come back to acting and have it be so joyful and so stimulating and challenging and wonderful, it's not something I ever thought would happen. ... And so to have a friend who I really trusted give me that opportunity just felt like such a such a gift out of nowhere."
