I've decided to stop OB2D..none has been playing it for the last month or so.

Sometimes there's almost 24 hours in between anyone logs on.

There's really no reason to make it take up valuable server memory.
I have stopped it on the server and removed the ob2d portion of the site.

3D is not doing much better but since it's new and no one knows about it, I'll give it a chance.

Good luck on finding another game, to the ones who still play 2D.

I played the game for 5 years now. You are killing something that i cant explain. Thats really really sad news. It was always a great pleasure playing the game (and dont listen to guys telling you that the gameplay is the reason why they stopped playing it. I learned everytime an other style and managed to be in top 10. Not the best but in top 10.).
I can understand this step somehow because you are sick and tired of just this little amount of players (even the hardcore-players like john, viper etc. not playing anymore).
I hope that OB2D will rise again (like this bird phoenix). I always thought that OB2D and OB3D is on one server (and if you let OB3D continue why dont you let OB2D continue? In case of that its on one server)
OB2D is your game..please dont let it die.
Thanks for all this years having this great game on the net. I wrote you before that it is (was) outstanding.
I am sad that you take this step and its like a kick in the face.
Good luck with everything mikkel.

Redneck or better Sadneck

(P.S.: i searched german boxing forums for Onlineboxing. I just wanna write you here what they think on this forums. One of the guys said that OB2D is an outstanding game if at least 10 guys are online playing it. He also said that it got much potential but the homepage of the game is shit. He thinks that this is the reason why not much playing it. OB3D he said is not his game because he prefers fight night and if he wanna play a cool onlineboxing game he prefers OB2D (this thread was from 2007). Another one said that OB2D is not supported very much from the developer mikkel and that OB3D is not the way he wanna play a boxing game online. He prefered the OB2D version but dont wanna play a dying game. This thread was from 2009. Everyone of them said that OB2D got a good quality of tournament-character (just one said that you need too much practice to fight on top with the best fighters there). If it comes to the 3D version everyone prefers the fight night games etc.
I hope you dont hate me if i say again to you: you are on the wrong way mikkel. The guys outside wanna play a good competetive 2D boxing game on the net. I tell you that as a friend...so dont be angry with me (fight night is too strong on the market but everyone want this 2D things playing on the net. Easy, classic gameplay etc. dont know why but sometimes this games got success without end (worms, this game with this bird shooting etc.).

I think it has gotten as far as it can. I think the main problem is that you people want to move forward with 2D. I want to move forward with 3D.
Even though 2D stayed, it wasnt enough for most people.

for me it was enough but i think you are right with a lot of people.
Anyway. Thx for the great time with OB2D. I wish you luck with the 3D-Part and maybe i take a look to your development there from time to time.
RIP OB2D..greatest boxing game ever played on the net.
Good luck with everything you develop and create.
Cya.

Hey mikkel im currently in afghanistan at the moment so i havent had any chance of playing at all. This is sad news i have to say i prefered 2d to 3d because it was the first version i played. I think alot of people have lost alot of years of playing on 2d but good times im happy i retired for a while and didnt waste alot of time hopefully you keep the site up and keep developin 3d.
I think its more a fact that people dont have time for ob2d anymore well the regulars that have been here a while and some people getting bored also.
i have to much on but i wish you good luck with the game mikkel.

Retirement but may have a few fights

If somebody would be willing to pay the monthly costs Mikkel, would you keep OB2D running? If so, how much are the monthly costs?

If not, thanks for creating the game Mikkel! I really enjoyed the ride while it lasted.

ps: who will take care of Ken Norton now, can anyone adopt him?

Its not that boon, but I already made up my mind never to lay down a dime for OB again..but I want to keep them separated since there seems to come alot of negativity towards 3D from the old players, directly or indirectly.
It was a mistake to have them together.
I might start 2D again on another site, or maybe on this site again and 3D somewhere else. Nothing is set in stone but they are going to be kept apart totally.

If the players (or anyone else) would pay for the costs, could we play OB2D again?

Wow I roll out for a few days and come back to find its done?? People don't like change and what I see is people not giving OB3D a chance... Mikkel I understand what's going on and if you need to take OB2D down for awhile then thats what you gotta do.

I always thought at some point OB2D would close down for awhile or for ever.. IMHO keeping OB up for a few players is a waste of time, money etc. Now you can focus on what you truly wanna do with 3D and not have to worrie about OB2D at all. Who knows maybe in the future OB2D will reopen and be better because you will have more time to give it!

Anyway Mikkel thank you for all the years it was a hell of a run and I give you alot of props for trying to keep OB alive even when it was slowing falling apart.

Good Luck.

Even when OB2D is 'discontinued', you still use this same illogical argument. 3D is not a new version of 2D. It is not something people transition into. Mikkel is completely correct about seperating 2D and 3D entirely. I've said it from the start, you can't expect people from an arcade game to start playing a 3D game that is completely different.

Anyway, I wish you success Mikkel. Sincerely and honestly. You've provided me with epic lulz for 3 years and the chance to argue with absolute morons. But I still enjoyed the game and the competition. Mainly, though, I suppose I owe you as I have met some seriously fucking awesome people on here.

I know you probably hate me, but know it was all in good fun.

Mikkel, why not keep OB2D running if the players pay for the costs?

"John represents the renaissance of OB. John stepped up and filled the vacuum Fatny left behind. Not only his skills are amazing, also his dedication to keep this game interesting and alive. I was there when he first won the title, I was watching over his shoulder when he bullied all competition, I was there when he became a HOF´er. I may not be a great fighter myself, but I do have eye for talent. John is something special, I told him right after he won his first title. John is the spark that became a flame that turned into a devastating fire. Apart from being a great guy he never stepped down from a challenge and always looked to square off against OB´s best to further improve his skills. Many HOF´ers made short comebacks during the year John reigned OB, only to be knocked out by Big Bad John." - Dick E. Boon

"The thing with John is that he's just so extremely accurate, both in offense and in defense. There's some punches I consider myself a master of, like the small hook and the long upper. Well they're useless against John no matter how well you throw them, he just keeps blocking 90% of them and hurting you in the process. Speaking of which...if he hurts you (and he will), you better move your head a lot because he also happens to be one of the best finishers i've ever seen. Basically if you're not extremely good AND creative, you'll end up on the floor. A fine addition to the hall of fame indeed." - Fatny

Sad for this game being deceased, but it is time to move on. I had a fun and very successful career in this game. It was fun to destroy Yacoob into pieces and I had fun fighting everyone. Couldn't play because I am busy for college. I hope 3D becomes a successful multiplayer game as 2D was.

Thanks for the all of the great fun and good luck for 3D to succeed as well.

Later.
