Like all joes fights very messy. He gets the job done, though it forever will be said that he never defeated a great fighter in his prime..

After watching the fight over a second time i honestly thought bernard hopkins took calzaghe to school. He made him fight him fight landed the cleaner harder more eye catching shots slowed calslappy down big time kncked him down, bruised him, cut him, staggered him and WAS NEVER HURT and traded frequently with him... not bad for a 43 year old version of B-Hop. He was robbed twice after outboxing taylor and lost a close decision many thought he won including me to calslappy. It seems like the judges don't want hopkins to retire in peace.... anyways i think he will wait for the dawson tarver winner then dominate who ever of those two bums wins followed by roy "kid coma" jones and then retire in peace.

Nah, Joe looked like the aggressive dominant fighter all the way through, at the start of the fight Joe was wary of Hopkin's counters and wasn't coming forward however in the later rounds Hopkins was just walking away from Joe while Joe did all the work, fair enough he landed cleaner punches but he was so tired from the early rounds that he had to cheat a 5 minute rest, which I though prevented a knockdown/stoppage. I thought Joe should have had it on a UD, Hopkins didn't impress me, he was slow, sluggish and had nothing on Joe in the later rounds.

What amazes me about JC is not his ability to choose opponents not good enough to beat him or opponents good enough to beat him but too much over the hill.. It's his ability to make boxing look like crap, making every single one of his fights a total bore. Has anyone seriously seen a great fight with JC ?

When you compare his boxing to James Toneys' or Leonards, and his fights to some of the great historic fights, he simply appears bloated. Well at least to me.

Compubox Stats:

Total punches thrown: Hopkins 468 Calaghe 707
Punches Landed: Hopkins 127 Calzaghe 232
PCT: Hopkins 27% Calzaghe 33%
Jabs Thrown: Hopkins 93 Calzaghe 224
Jabs Landed: Hopkins 11 Calzaghe 45
PCT: Hopkins 12% Calzaghe 20%
Power Punches Thrown: Hopkins 375 Calzaghe 483
Power Punches Landed: Hopkins 116 Calzaghe 187
PCT: Hopkins 31% Calzaghe 39%

Calzaghe also hit Hopkins more than anybody esle has in his entire career.

So based on FACTS please tell me where your biased opinion stacks up?. Calzaghe has yet again proven people wrong but of course some Americans won't accept a Euro fighter being great. Lennox Lewis also didn't get the respect he deserved.

I don't see how you can win a fight throwing a shot here and there cleaner shot or not then hold everytime Calzaghe tries to land a shot, the man was petrified like he was having a prime Tyson chraging at him. Fighting like a coward deserves a L on the record, his negative style also cost him against Taylor which I think is right.

You use the predictable age excuse, no one was saying he was old when he beat Tarver and Ronald Wright, it only becomes an issue when he loses to a brit right?. If he'd won it would have been called an outstanding achievement , so Calzaghe can't win. Hopkins looked in better condition than Calzaghe, if anything you could argue he was fitter.

You can use the Padded record about almost every boxer, it's also very rare for two great fighters to fight each other in their primes which is why Fraizier, Foreman and Ali's era was so great. Infact if you look at Hopkins, He beat a washed up Trinidad, Tarver and Oscar and lost to a prime Roy Jones and Taylor and If I'm not mistaken it was Hopkins negative tactics that made the match boring with his persistent holding. He also kept saying Calzaghe was a homeboy, never fought outside the UK and just how many times has he fought outside the US?,0.

You have never seen a exciting Calzaghe match?,you obviously haven't seen his matches against Eubank, Mitchell, Lacy and Woodhall. Just like every other boxer including Mayweather they have bad nights depending on the person they are fighting. I guarantee if Hopkins wanted a war Calzaghe would have duly obliged.

nice post and i honestly dont know how anybody could call calzaghe boring. against lacy he had a perfect gameplan, and played the showman, taunting and throwing all the speedy combos at the end. vs mitchell coming off the canvas to win. he has a real fighting spirit, a tendency to get stuck in and brawl which looks risky but makes it more entertaining.

its a shame he wasnt fighting eubank and benn at their peaks. however he has done all he could have done (in a maybe weaker era), with a perfect record

Hate it or love it Hopkins has one of the most effective styles in boxing and will be remembered for being an all-time great and is up there with marvin hagler and ray robinson in the all time middleweight list. Secondly like Mikkel said earlier joke calslappy is nothing but a glass chinned bum and couldn't carry Lennox Lewis' jockstrap. Unlike joe Lewis didn't pad and beat the living crap out of other HW fighters who are also in the top 10 list, this was prbably because Lewis learned how to fight in Canada/US and not in England...who will calzaghe be remembered for? bika, lacy, manfredo...LOL and i don't count hopkins since he was made to look like an ameture with all them weak feminine slaps that compubox says are power punches....compubox doesnt tell the truth and u aren't supposed to use it to judge a fight. Plus 1 hopkins power punch did way more damage then 10 of his bitch arm punches/slaps which landed mostly n hopins shoulders and elbow...End of discussion

And yeah the 36 version of Hopkins that faught a prime trinidad would have beaten this 36 year old version of calzaghe any day of the week...probably by a knockout

I'd write a paragraph for you but theres not really much point, Calzaghe proved to people like you that he IS the better fight by beating Hopkins. Whether a 36 year old Hopkins would have beaten Calzaghe is irrelevant he's 43 not 36.

And as for this :-

" joke calslappy is nothing but a glass chinned bum and couldn't carry Lennox Lewis' jockstrap."

If this guy you described managed to convincingly beat Hopkins then you must rate Hopkins as pretty shit.
